So, the other week I'd set myself the challenge to record an album in 5 days.
I'd looked back on the year and realised that I'd done nothing musicial whatsoever. I still have an album waiting in the wings to be released and it was almost 12 months since I'd made music.
So I setup a group on Facebook called "I'm Making an Album in 5 Days" and started the project.
Suprisingly enough, it was one of my most well received albums, people commenting more and downloading more than any of my others. I think half of the reason was because I had commit myself to a deadline. I'd announced a deadline and would look rather foolish if I didnt realease anything.
I think that kickstart was the motivation I needed to get myself making music again. Then everything came flooding back, the fun, the excitement, the stress! I think that a lot of modern musicians lack the motivation to commit to making an album, they release things as "demos" or the "latest version" rather than committing and saying "this is my album, warts and all".
It's a strange satisfaction when you release something, all of the things that bugged you beforehand and changes that you decided not to make all fade away and you become immensely proud of what you have just done.
With a new decade arriving it's the time when people make new years resolutions and have an immense amount of motivation. I urge every musician to push themselves to take that step and do what they have always wanted to do: record an album.
Getting the commitment to motivation

Quickly taking a couple of the demo songs and playing with them in Ableton. One of them called "The Lonely Computer" sounds really nice.
I'm making a new album. It hasn't been written yet. It will be released on Saturday.

Still on holiday out in the Mallorcan sun writing and rehearsing. Nice and relaxed! Feel like I haven't played guitar in ages!
Mixing "Ashes - Snow In May" today. Sounding quite epic. Also randomly started 3 new tracks. Just leaving them to settle...
For muso's: Fed up with my string library. Anyone have any suggestions for a good orchestral sampler? Was thinking Eastwest Gold...
Mixing "Follow Me To Safety" today. This song always makes me feel like jumping around. Does anyone else have a song like that?
Been mixing "Ashes - Snow In May". Should I release my tracks one-by-one over time or wait and release as a whole?

Hello again children,
It's another turning point again for Archive Of Everything. I've secretly released a single out on the interweb. It has a twist, if youre that way inclined then you can take the individual instuments and remix them into your own music. Its all for free too! You can pay for the track if you want to (it's very appreciated if you do, I need to eat you see), but if you choose to pay nothing then that is fine with us.

Whatever remixes you come up with then please send them onto us and we will feature the best ones on the site and on our myspace pages.
Keep an eye out because it doesn't stop here...

Album 3 - Music Video - The Hit Squad
Posted by Chris Sunday, July 26, 2009 at 8:25 AM
So, today I've been creating. Creating with a very bad hangover might I add... So I apologise in advance for my rambly blog...
The past few weeks have been full of planning and organising and trying to get things together again after a long hiatus.
Music video: I realised that having 2 albums out and no music video is terrible so I've been planning one for the song "Everything's Just Great". The song itself is a twist on "classic rock" so I've decided to create a video thats a twist on the classic "band video". I won't reveal too much at the moment because I don't want to spoil the suprise, but we'll see how it turns out!!
Album 3 - Hyperman Versus Rockman: I'm thinking of cutting the album down to the size of an EP. I don't want to run the risk of over-egging the pudding by tracks that could be considered "fillers". Not that I would ever consider adding a track to bump up the track listing, but I feel guilty adding newly written tracks in between the tracks I wrote for the album a year ago.
The Hit Squad: This has come back into the fray after months of sitting on the shelf. The reality of creating 30minutes of animation every single month became very daunting indeed. After letting the dust settle and re-thinking the whole project, I think I'm happy to cut episode length and have a constantly evolving story throughout the series. Rather than having a 30 minute story each episode. With this in mind, I can imagine being able to start creating more, quicker.

Will have some new content up in the next week or so... :)
